Kids' Speed & Power Workshop

At most public schools, kids do not get to participate in Track and Field until they are in 6th grade. However, many elementary school-age kids love to run, have energy to burn, and could benefit from the myriad advantages engaging in the sport offers, even at that age. So, the CFFR Planning Team hosts instructional workshops for kids grades 1 through 5 to teach them the fundamentals of speed and power, which undergird all events in track and field, as an introduction to the sport. Along the way, they learn self-discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, and goal-setting, characteristics and skills that will be advantageous to them in any sport and in life. Instruction is also provided for those interested in running the Elementary School 4x100 Meter Relay at the CFFR meet each year. Led by Saluki Women's Track alumna Marian Morris and Planning Team members Brittany Lalicker and Sara Kaiser, the two-part workshop aims to provide kids a fun and didactic time outdoors, away from screens with their peers.
